Coming Soon: IFC Renews The Onion News Network Plus So Much More

By Melissa Locker on 03/23/2011

Pardon me. We have some very exciting news and need everyone making that drumrolling sound on the table with pencils, pens, and hands and whatnot. All set? Okay, commence drumroll please. IFC is pleased to announce that we have renewed the Onion News Network for a second season. Or in the words of Brooke Alvarez, "The Onion News Network has allowed IFC to broadcast our programming for a second season. You're welcome, huddled masses." However you spin it, we are excited to have the best (only?) news network on cable on our air for another season. Now to borrow a line from the best late night infomercials, but wait, there's more!

In addition, IFC has green lit four new original series: "Commercial Kings" from Reveille, "Young, Broke & Beautiful" produced by 44 Pictures, "Whisker Wars" produced by Thom Beers' Original Productions, and "Bullet in the Face," created and written by Alan Spencer. But don't order yet, because for a limited time we are willing to double that offer and give you two Ginzu knives two more original series currently in development. We are working on an untitled variety show hosted by Comedy Death-Ray's Scott Aukerman and "Pointless" created by Ethan Berlin and Eric Bryant, which came to IFC through the New York Television Festival.

What are these brilliant new shows we will soon be offering? Well they won't whiten your whites or organize your closet, but we are pretty sure these shows will (sham) wow you.

Commercial Kings premieres Friday, June 24th at 10 p.m. Starring filmmakers and comedy duo Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal, this docu-comedy series follows the pair as they travel across America, developing and producing commercials for local businesses. The show's concept is based on Rhett and Link's popular website, www.ilovelocalcommercials.com, which has made the duo an internet sensation with over 80 million views on YouTube.

first episode of the upcoming show - - now posted here courtesy of HULU

I'm not really sure what to expect from this show yet, but Rhett & Link just have this funny way of reminding us to never expect anything less than the best from them with every new video they create. I'm sure this show will be no different! I will officially be clearing my Friday night schedule for the rest of the summer to watch the amazing Commercial Kings. From Internetainment to Teletainment, I'm hooked on Rhett and Link!

I'm really hoping that it will basically just be set up like the short videos they were making behind the scenes for their other commercials. I have a feeling that because it's on IFC (and not nearly all of the other channels on TV) it probably will be extremely similar, but with commercials.

The live stream bit will be very interesting to watch afterwords, hopefully.

Okay, so when I watched the first episode on Hulu, other than loving it, I noticed Link take a major spill in one of the commercial bumpers. Looked REALLY painful. Now I'm trying to find that clip again but my initial scans aren't turning anything up. If anybody sees it and posts a time stamp or something I'd be very grateful.
@ 13:40 Link takes a nose dive . . . OUCH ! ! !

Thanks Gumbo! Yeah, rewatching it that looks like it really hurt! Someone tweeted, asking Link about it and Link said he nearly broke his elbow. >.br/>

What is Commercial Kings rated?  Is it kid-friendly?  Any ideas?
according to DirectTV and IFC Network information, tomorrow's first episode is TV-14 (which I believe is like PG for movies) - - If you have any concerns, you could ask your parents to preview the entire episode on HULU or here on the Kommunity pages. > > >  Episode #1 ~ Cats & Dogs

I'm not concerned for my family but for my friend's family, as she has little siblings.  Thanks!

The premiere show, live broadcast, and overall experience both including and not including Rhett and Link was amazing! It was a fantastic beginning to what I'm sure will be a highly successful show! I look forward to the new episodes and the interaction with R&L as the season goes on. P.S. -My cats were fascinated by the commercial, and, if we didn't live in South Carolina, would gladly come and visit.
