Wikipedia is a site that contains facts and opinions. It isn't always right, but it can be. This might not be one of those times. I'll check, though. Thanks!
Update: I checked, and I found proof.

I think he basically was an entertainer who was willing to exploit any affiliation he could in order to sell more records.  Read about it here and decide for yourself:

ALL PRAISE THE KING - - The Many Faiths of Elvis Presley

A very interesting fact: Elvis only ever won 3 Grammy awards in his lifetime, all for Christian Gospel recordings.  According to http://www.elvis.com/about-the-king/achievements.aspx

It is estimated that Elvis Presley has sold over one billion record units worldwide, more than anyone in record industry history. In America alone, Elvis has had 150 different albums and singles that have been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America , with more certifications expected as research into his past record sales continues and as current sales go on. Research is also underway to document his record sales achievements in other countries. It is estimated that 40% of Elvis' total record sales have been outside the United States.

Elvis received 14 Grammy nominations from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. His three wins were for gospel recordings - the album "How Great Thou Art" (1967), the album "He Touched Me" (1972) and his live Memphis concert recording of the song "How Great Thou Art" (1974).

Nice, but you left out one tiny detail...

WHAT WAS HIS RELIGION?!?!!?!?

If you would take the time to read any of the research referenced, you would see that although he professed Christianity he did have Jewish family roots. And remember, saying you're a Christian and actually being one are two distinctly different things.  A person can go to church everytime the doors are open, look and talk the part, but still not be the "real thing".  I can go stand in my garage in go "vrrooommm-vrrooommm-beep-beep" all day long and it won't make me a car.  ;-)
But it is not for us to judge someone's heart either though. I believe he could have been a christian...
It might remain a mystery forever.

That depends if you consider eating doughnuts a religion.

8-)

Actions speak louder than words. We couldn't have known his heart, only God can. So it is not safe to assume anything. Did he regularly profess to be a Christain? If so then I might think he was. Also being "religious" is NOT what God called us to do. Following the one true God is. (I fear this may stir the pot a bit much) But I must side with Gumbo, saying your a christain doesn't do much, its all about the heart. So it it easy to say that this discussion will have no fruit. So let us not continue to banter on. Yes?
