Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE:

THIS PROJECT IS NOW BEING COMPLETELY ORGANIZED BY GABRIELLE! THE CUT OFF DATE FOR SUBMISSIONS WILL BE MAY 10TH. ALL SUBMISSIONS IN BY MAY 10TH!  SHE CAN BE REACHED FOR QUESTIONS ON TWITTER @ MYTHICALGABBIE.

EMAIL ADDRESS FOR SUBMISSIONS IS linkneal39@yahoo.com

Just throwing this out there.  I understand that it is a ton of work, but it is rewarding.  It has become a tradition for someone here to get something together for the guys' birthdays. Link will be 39 this year and we don't want to drop the ball now because I believe, if this gets to be too much for the ones that step up and take control of these projects, we should at least go out with a bang for their 40ths. And Rhett's is of course in October. Sooo, on that note. I am opening this up for volunteers, ideas....  The last couple of years, books of MBs artwork have been assembled and shipped. It doesn't have to be a book. But I believe something needs to be done.

Something that MBs from all around the world can get involved in, so usually, digital art that can be emailed or messaged, is the easiest..

Ideas, volunteers? Who's up for it?

UPDATE: Thanks to Maple Dash and Gumbo for a fresh idea for a book theme this year. We will make a compilation of photos of Link from around the world (picture "Flat Stanley" only... it will be "Flat Link). I will head up collecting the images via email and putting them into a book/album to send to Link.  I need to work out a few small details about which image we would use, and how to credit the Beast that took the picture and how to label the location he virtually visits.

Keep an eye on this post for those updates, the email I will be using to collect these, and for the cutoff date. BYMB

oooh I would definitely draw something for them again! Okay, we've done books 2 times for both of them in a row, I wonder what it will be this year!

I like making artwork for the boys! I would participate in whatever this project is going to be!

I made an update to the original post. This year we are going to do a "Flat Link" theme. Taking pictures of Link at a place near each of our homes that might be a landmark or some place that means something to us.

Okay first of all : I LOVE THIS. There are lots of cool murals and beaches in my city that I'd love to take "virtual Link" to for a picture for the birthday book! I'm super excited about this! If you need any help organizing, let me know, as I'm about to have lots of free time coming up soon this summer.

Since I have lots of free time coming up, I'm curious... to anyone who's organized it before... what are the typical costs of putting the book together? I would be happy to be one of the MBs organizing if you'd have me .

Needless to say, I am super interested in helping out in a big way!❤️If it helps my chances of being in charge of this project, I am an upperclassmen in college and am very good at time management and getting work done. I have all A's and only a couple B's and love to write and am good at using social media.

Oh! Woops, I guess I should've mentioned that by "Summer" I meant the entire month of May. :)

Rhett's birthday project cost around 40 hours of time and a little over $80 between shipping costs and getting the book printed and bound. But, what we have done previously is have the Beasts that want to participate draw something or write a letter and submit it to an email address, DM or Messenger app.  When that is done, you have such an array of submissions, it takes more time to organize the items to fit pages properly and post names to credit the artist or writer.  I think with this particular "Flat Link" idea, it will be MUCH easier. The Beasts will snap a picture and email it....to whichever email is chosen.. I have several, but if you know of a place that prints and binds books (or if you want to do 4x6 prints and put them in an album/finding a way to put Beasts names and locations on or near it) we could have the submissions sent to your email.  From my experience, it's good to allow 10 business days for shipping if you are in the states. I allowed myself about a week to put it together and ten days for shipping and that is how I decided the cut off for Rhett's. I usually include a "favorites mousepad" for them to use at their desks. Rhett's has been seen on his desk in pics and vids, so he is utilizing it. I am in the process of asking for some faves of Link's on twitter.  Keep me posted if you want to take it from here, or assist.

Jaymie, I would love to take the burden of the project off your hands. Thank you for entrusting me with the project. I hope to make all of the Mythical Beasts proud! My mind is already buzzing with ideas. My husband is a graphic designer (and a mythical beast as well) and he's willing to help me with the cover art, etc. I actually just thought of something - wouldn't it be cute if the book was a "scrapbook" type thing? Like a travel journal!

I'll make an email just for this project, so that everything the Beasts send in is in one place. I can make the email tomorrow and I'll post it as soon as it's made. People can start sending in their photos as soon as they want to.

So I guess all we need to clarify now is, will Beasts be holding the "flat Link" in their photo? Or just photoshopping him into a photo they take of their city? I think it would be sweet if everyone was in their picture, that way Link could see all of us. What do you guys all think? Let me know!

Thanks again Jaymie. I am really excited to get started. I'll post the email once I've made it. BYMB & happy Easter ❤️

Just chiming in here, but I think definitely holding the flat Link and taking a picture with it would be best...I know I don't have the Photoshop skills to put him into an existing photo! Plus many people don't necessarily have that kind of software.

I totally agree! I think actually holding him in the picture would be best because he could see everyone, and also that Photoshop is a skill that not everyone has like you said. I know I sure don't know how to utilize that software. xD

I'd be happy to help with whatever I can (though I'm not an artist) - I'll keep updated through this post, but you are welcome to reach out.

And I think your idea is amazing! For simplicity, I would recommend that it was a cutout figure instead of photoshopping - just a thought...

Ooo I definitely want to be part of this!! (Although I won't be free from April 27th to May 15th due to exams)

All you have to do is take a pic of "Flat Link" and email it to Gabrielle when she gets her email for this project set up,

Hey Gabrielle, I'm sure you'll get to this eventually, but I just wanted to suggest that once you have this project fully figured out that you start a new thread with very clear, direct instructions for participants to follow, as well as the "flat Link" image for them to use. Once it's ready, we can advertise the project on our Kommunity social media accounts and get more people involved. :)
