Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!

Hey, Kommunity!

I think it would be very fun for us to do something together for Rhett and Link in celebration for GMM episode 1000, which if schedule continues as normal, will fall on October 13, 2016.

I've seen a lot of ideas floating around online, but I think now is about the time to get started.

So, the floor is open to many ideas and anyone can do whatever they like to celebrate, this is not official or anything, but maybe some of us can write an original song and make a short music video for them! (**CREDIT TO LUCY**) We can work on it in a group or elsewhere to prevent spoiling the result until finished. I have experience with iMovie for the videos (it's what I used for Link's birthday project) and GarageBand for mixing, if needed or desired. But, if someone is very fast and clean with editing (transitions, title cards, all the fancy stuff), that'd be more than helpful!

If you're interested in this, please discuss here. It doesn't matter how many people are involved, as long as everyone brings something to the table and we have good, clean fun!

And if you have other ideas, feel free to post them! Even if the song and/or video doesn't work out, we can do something else, too. :) Thanks!

If anyone is not really sure of what a collaboration video is, here's a few references that have been made in the past for YouTube gamer, Markiplier: "Markiplier Reacts to 6 Million Fan Music Video" and "Markiplier 8 Million Fans Video (Mark reacted 6/22!)"

The first one includes a cover song and the second one is more about saying thanks. I'm sure there's many more for other creators out there and we don't have to make one exactly like these, but they are really good examples and just good on their own. :)

I had two ideas for the GMM 1000 celebration so far.

One is very difficult to create in time.

I talked about the idea for a video on Twitter a while back.

Rhett and Link had uploaded a "Thank you" video once.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAwsLe8HSNE&ab_channel=GoodMyth...

They thanked us 1 million times but their video was also three hours long :P

My idea was a "response video". It would be awesome if we could get video clips from 1 million Mythical Beasts just saying "thank you". (They have 10 million subscribes...it would be technically possible)

I won't go into too many details on this idea though, because like I stated before: we probably won't make it in time.

The other idea was to rewrite the song from episode 100 of GMM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tepTJlKsv8k&ab_channel=GoodMyth...

Making it longer, adding more things they have done in all those 9 seasons and stuff.

I'm actually still hoping that they will do that themselves, but if not...then maybe we could do that for them ;)

Those are just two ideas from me, but I would love to do something special for them, since they did so many great things for us.

Oh, yeah! I remember seeing your tweet about that. Sorry I didn't credit it was your idea. :(

All good ideas! :)

Oh my goodness... I can't believe they went 3 HOURS! XD WOW. Talk about a social experiment, huh? ;)

I actually love the idea of a thank you video from the Mythical Beasts! Unfortunately I don't think we could realistically reach 1 million people without R&L themselves promoting it, BUT, if we lower the bar I think it would still have an amazing effect. I think just a short clip from each participant saying "thank you" put together in a montage would be short, sweet, and heartfelt.

Plus, it's more of an equalizing project that rewriting the GMM 100 song because relatively few Mythical Beasts have the musical ability to participate in that and pull it off...whereas nearly everyone can say (or even write) a thank you. :)

The "thank you's" would probably be a bit easier to do, recording, sending, and editing wise. :) It's possible we can make that video for this specific project and do the remake song for another, or have the option to do either project. I'm hearing more people interested in doing the song at this point, but its only the first day!

Perhaps we can also create a short "thank you" statement that can be montaged.

Should we go ahead and make a group to discuss more?
Oh so wait, has a thank you video ever been done by the Komm before? Kinda surprised if so! I know we say thanks in many ways, but like this?

If we would decide to make a Thank you video and we have just a little group of Mythical Beasts who want to participate, we could also make the video more interesting by putting little clips into it.

(I know this sounds like a lot of work, but hear me out! ;)   )

I thought about two (three?) different ways to make this video.

The first thought in general was that I wouldn't want to make a 3 hour long video. (And btw. their video is obviously also edited and it repeats itself after a while.)
I think if we try to get their attention for at most 15 minutes that should work.

The person editing the video should create an email account where the MB send their video clips to. Think of it as the wheel of mythicality ending. Nothing too long, nothing to fancy, just a Thank you.

(Maybe we can also play one of their instrumental versions of a song in the background. Nothing too distracting, just something to fill little gaps between videos and to distract from different audio qualities.)

That means we should have a "time limit" on the video clips. A simple Thank you shouldn't be longer than 3 seconds. Why that could be important will be clear with the different ideas listed below.

Idea 1: You just put every video clip of the MB saying thank you back to back. Full screen, some music (maybe) playing in the background and then the different MB. If someone doesn't want their face to be on camera, they could also just make a little sign (aka piece of paper) with a written "Thank you" on it and hold it up in some kind of cute/funny way.

It would also be possible for people to say Thank you in their own language, if they really want to. That could make everything a bit more interesting, but it could also be confusing, so that idea would need some voting, before we decide on it.

Idea 2: If you have too many people for idea 1, you can make everything a little bit different. Because if you would get 1 million Thank you clips being each 3 seconds long, you couldn't fit everything in a 15 minute long video. My idea for that problem was a montage. If you put multiple Thank you videos at once on the screen, you can save some time. (Think of it like some of these acapella videos. multiple people on the screen) To decide which people should be put together, you could look at the countries they're coming from. (or the states if they're from the US.) So you would have 5 people from Denmark, then 3 people from Norway, then 10 people from Texas, 23 people from Los Angeles and so on. We could put the name of the country/state on the bottom of the screen, so Rhett and Link could also see where the MBs are from.

Idea 3: If we get not "enough" Thank you clips, we could also include some Rhett and Link clips in the video itself. So you could make a side-by-side/ split screen video with one MB saying Thank you on the left side of the screen and their favorite GMM moment on the right side. Again, no need to be fancy but just a 3-5 second clip from GMM. The moment Link's glasses get stuck in the peanut butter on Rhett's face, the moment Rhett and Link danced with Redfoo, the first time they said Good Mythical Morning, the wheel ending slap each other in the face, a line from the Song for when, Link saying 'sure will be nice when they make this road four lanes' from the vacay gone cray cray segments, rabbit lightning discussing song ideas etc.

That would give Rhett and Link also some information about what we like to see from them.

So these are just some ideas how you could make the Thank you video. :)

Making a thank you video would be awesome, and I think it'd be lovely if people who don't speak english wanted to say "Thank you" in their own language~

I think the first idea sounds lovely- like idk it seems very heartfelt and pure? Like a band of Mythical Beasts coming together to make a video, each of them saying thank you or holding up a sign, or maybe they're doing both talking and holding up a sign! Depending on what the individual would like <:
And maybe if they choose to hold a sign it could be just a simple written "Thank you!" or it could be like a drawing or some word art, or like a "Thanks from -insert country here-!" or idK, SOMETHING LIKE THAT? Just however the person chooses to express themself in the few seconds given to say thank you? uvu

GREAT ideas, Lucy!

I really like the idea of people saying thank you in their native language, with a picture of their country's flag in the same frame with them and the country or state or well-known city they're from, if they would be okay with that.

I think the time limit and amount of people is really going to be dependent on where and how we advertise the idea. Example: Link's birthday project involved just over 50 people. If we restrict to the Komm, we may only get that many or a few more. If we advertise elsewhere, there may be more... I don't want to set a cap to be able to include a lot of people, but we will need to decide on a proper deadline as well.

Saving time with multiple people on the screen is a good idea, too. Thinking ahead, IF R&L do a reaction video, their faces would probably cover someone's face, etc. ?

And I think, theme-wise, the "our favorite GMM Moments" could be a separate video. I think, realistically, we would have enough thank-you's for one video. Open to suggestion, though.

...

Kinda wish we had already done the "thank-you" video for their 10 years anniversary, and then we do "our GMM moments" for 1000, but we just didn't think about it earlier and that's alright. But, and I'm thinking about it more now, they've already made their own GMM moments videos so I'm not really sure about doing that. They'll just be watching their own content again. ??

Great ideas! I'm happy you took the time to really think this out!

I also thought about this last night, but didn't post it,

What if people said their "thank you's" in or on different GMM-related things?

Examples being:

the words "thank you" written out on a table as cereal (there's been posts of this and other food items on Facebook using their logo)

putting a thank you card inside or on a GMM mug somehow,

people wearing their GMM merch in the video (if they want to), or have merch in the background somewhere (like a poster if you have one),

make a DVD cover insert saying thank you on your Ms. Locklear DVD case (lol), or make a paper CD inside that says thank you inside of the DVD case

if you wear glasses that look like Link's, maybe put "thank" over top one lens and "you" on the other, or something that emphasizes the frame

etc.

And I think it would be okay if multiple people end up doing the same thing, whether on purpose or by accident. It would still go in, just to clarify that.

And if you don't have GMM stuff, that's okay, you can try to make something R&L or GMM or any of the logos or mascots somehow for your part. Get creative!

Point is, I'd like for them to not only watch the video to see everyone's faces (if comfortable) saying their personal thanks, but also to grab R&L's attention so they might have the incentive to pause the video many times to see just how detailed we got for them, if that makes sense.

I wouldn't think too much of the possibilty of a reaction video. Even if they want to do one, they know very well how not to cover up any parts of the video. And the possibilty is very small anyway.

That point and also the one with "looking for small details" are things that could take up too much of their time. Rhett and Link seem always very busy to me and I think that in the moments when they have some freetime they don't want to think about anything job related too much.

That's why I wanted to keep the video "as short as possible" to increase the chance of them actually watching it.

And yes, they did their own "GMMoments", but it's still something the crew has put together. (Maybe with the help from Mythical Beasts via suggestions) But it didn't came directly from the fans. And we often remember some moments that were precious to us, that they don't even think about anymore. (They can't even remember the lyrics to their own songs, while most of us can sing them easily ;)   )

So looking at "their own content" would also be kind of a time travel for them. Seeing all the things they did and what people enjoyed the most.

I wouldn't make it into a seperate video, because that would probably take too much time and effort. And it wouldn't feel as connected, because we would just gather some GMM clips. The idea behind my intention of bringing clips into the video was just so that Rhett and Link would really see "why" we're thanking them. Of course we're saying thank you for all the things they did for us. But seeing someone saying Thank you with a smile and a funny moment from your show could make a bigger connection.

And I would've guessed that people would bring their GMM related things into the video anyway :) Like I said: if you think about the wheel intros, you have also people who show their GMM mugs with their GMM T-shirts and other people just being on a special place without any merch.

I'm also putting my vote behind Idea #1. The easier it is for people to participate in a project, the more people you will get, and you can't get much easier than a 3-5 second clip saying "thank you" or holding up a sign! The idea to use people's native languages would also be a cool touch, to show Rhett and Link's worldwide reach. :)

In terms of getting the widest reach to spread the word to Mythical Beasts, once the project prompt is finalized, we can always try a Komm membership email blast and our social media pages to start getting the word out...the combination has worked pretty well in the past, with about 300 participants in last year's Christmas KBE and 100+ for each birthday book.

Side thought -- if people wanted, this kind of "thank you" project could even be made to acknowledge all their milestones of 2016 so far: 10 million subscribers, 10 years on YouTube, 10 GMM seasons, 1000 GMM episodes, and all that (lots of 10s!) If it's all people saying/writing thank yous, the video and whole project could be presented as a thank you for everything to this point.

I'm okay with whatever is feasible and fun for everyone! :)
