NABS
A question about a famous line from the poet laureate of Fuquay-Varina, R.R. Barefoot.
The whole father's day video made me think about the tendency of grand parents and great grand parents to say and pronounce words that vary from slight deviations to complete diversions from the subjects they are talking about.
For instance, my grandmother used to call my Transformers, "Autotrons"; and my grandfather called my son Luke, "Zeke" for years.
So, here's the question guys: When Rusty talked about "buying a pack of Nabs", is there any chance this was an inside joke about one of your grandparents buying you a pack of Nerds when you were younger, but mistakenly calling them Nabs?
If not, way to go on making your characters so hilariously believable.

I've lived in the South (Raleigh, NC) my entire life, and we've always called the little packets of crackers 'a pack of Nabs'.
From what I know, Nabs is short for Nabisco, which somehow has something to do with Lance, Inc. - just like seaspiritnw said.
In all honesty, though, I never really knew why we called them "nabs"(and still do!) I never saw it anywhere on the packaging!

well, I grew up always knowing "nabs" meant a sixpack of crackers, filled with either cheese or peanut butter:

so i thought it would be funny to tip my hat to that. both my granddads always said "grab ya a pack a nabs, boy." so that's where my mind was when that came out of my mouth.
but now that i think about it..."nabs" is probably short for Nabisco.....hmmmm *googling*...yep!:

But, to your point, for the first few years of my marriage, my Papa--Lincoln--always referred to my wife as "madame" hahahaha...i just don't think he could remember her name! but he's got it now.

I never thought about the Nabisco thing.. I remember those old huge glass Lance jars sitting on the counters in stores full of "Nabs".. that's just what all the adults always called them. I still love my Lance crackers!

Hmm.. must be a Southern thing. I grew up in CA and AZ, and I just called them Cheese Crackers and Peanut Butter Crackers...

PS- "Nabs" are actually mentioned in the opening sequence of our Locklear movie too!

LOL i noticed that too ... you also said the bigger the better refering to someones hair ... i laughed because of that one esp since the hair was in the 80s as well

The Nabs comment would have made seeing it even better. Robin and I were kicking ourselves that we couldn't be there to see it and enjoy the concert...and also because the Hampton Inn happens to be my personal favorite hotel option.
