Hi Constance,

Our rule about keeping your own identity is mostly concerned with people who adopt a fake personality and use images of other people to convince our members that they're an entirely different person--as you can imagine, this creates problems with deception and potential "catfishing." It's okay if you use a pseudonym, but if you don't want to use a photo of yourself on your profile, we ask that you use something generic rather than an image of someone who is not you.

You can actually only send private messages once you've friended a person, so leaving a comment on my profile page was perfectly fine!
