This was one of my favorite book series growing up. I think horses were still my favorite animal at the time I read them, but these books planted the seed of change.
Oh, and my favorite book as an adult is The Call of the Wild.
I have 3 copies of it: one that is old and well-read, a newer edition I saw in a bookstore that has a fancy cover I like, and a Chinese-language edition that my sister got for me when she studied abroad in China (even though I can't read any form of Chinese, haha).
