I went to public school for kindergarten and 1st grade, but it was mainly religious reasons, the teachers and students were great people and I'm still friends with a lot of them but my parents thought homeschooling was a better option.

im in ninth grade now, and i was homeschooled before up until 5th grade, because i wanted to try public school. i liked 5th and 6th grade, but in middle school i realized some of my "best friends" were the people who bullied me the most. after 8th grade i went back to homeschooling. unlike what everyone says about homeschoolers having social problems, i actually have more friends(good friends) now because i was able to become more involved in youth group and karate.

My parents decided to homeschool because my birthday was right after the cut-off day, so the public schools wouldn't take me for another year. My parents thought I was ready, so they decided to homeschool me for a year and then send me to public school. Somewhere the plan got changed, and I was homeschooled all the way until college, and it looks like it'll be the same for all my siblings!

She did, at one point, almost give up, but my dad said, "Well at least something is better than nothing." That kind of became our motto. :) My mom did read a lot of books on personalities. I haven't a clue how my mom managed to school 5 grades at once (and we were all in multiple grades per year, ie...I would be in 4th grade math but 6th grade reading). She also individualized each of our curriculums.

I didn't always like being homeschooled, but now looking back, I LOVED it and wouldn't have traded it for anything! Not only do I know that I learned more than I would have in public school, but it kept my family very close, even into our adult years (us kids, that is). I don't really miss the lack of social contact, I think it helped me become a stronger and more confident individual.
To all of you out there who ARE homeschooling, don't give up!! Your kids will love you for it someday!

My mom had to have eye surgery when she was in middle school and was out of school for a couple months, so she had to do her school work at home, where she realized she was doing better and getting more done faster. Also, I have some pretty stupid cousins that I did not want to go to school with. I feel like I can learn more without being made fun of, and now I love being a geek! Also, hearing about shootings and stuff like that every day on the news really makes me thankful that I'm…

I also don't trust the public school system shoving their crap down my throat. = )
