rhettandlink.com: Shouldn't there be more general info?

OK, I'm no one to judge.

It just struck me, that I simply forgot when GMM is coming back on. Naturally, I went to the main site, and... it was nowhere to be found. I re-watched the latest episode, and sure enough, at the end there it was: January 8th, a Wednesday.

So, OK, I found out what I was looking for. But shouldn't info like that be on the website? I was talking to a few people on Kommchat about this, and it was interesting that quite a lot of people didn't know when GMM start the next season.

Having to re-watch the last episode to find things like a date isn't really a good idea I think...

I don't know if this has been overlooked, or was intentionally put only in the videos. Maybe someone else would also like to chime in on this.

That's a good question; I'm curious too. They recently mentioned season 5 on Twitter, FB, and G+, but even there they didn't say what date it was coming back! I can't imagine they'd be intentionally obtuse about it, though. Probably just an oversight.

Hmm, yeah, that might have been marketing, etc.

In general, though, I'd like to see some general info on the main page, since that's where you go to to find things out, right? The Wikipedia page about Rhett and Link is surprisingly good, but you know, it's like missing a bit here and there.

I edited their Wikipedia page in November (rearranged some things so it made more sense and added Ear Biscuits and more specifics about GMM and TMS)... I also added the list of GMM episodes, which is sort of questionable from a Wikipedia standpoint in terms of whether it even belongs on the site, but they haven't taken it down yet so... I will need to start updating again very soon (yay!!).

What else do you think it needs? I'd be happy to edit it again!

Nice job, Caitrin! I was wondering who had done all that work.

In my opinion it's no different than a TV show that has a list of episodes, list of acting credits for an actor or a "discography" for a musician or band.

You might just want to send a quick note (perhaps thtough Jason Inman since he usually responds in a day or two) and ask about getting approval from the guys before adding too much detail that they might not want included on the main page, but from what I saw you had added a seperate listing for the GMCL and GMM episode titles.

Thank you. :) Yes, the list of episodes seems legit to me, but I don't have a lot of experience with Wikipedia and I got kind of dizzy trying to read through all of the style guides and requirements. Putting it on a separate page definitely kept it from cluttering up the main one.

I don't plan to add anything major to the main page, just update it with new creative projects as they come along. I hadn't thought about checking with them before I made edits, since everything up there is public knowledge, but that's probably not a bad idea if it's something major.

Finally a fellow Wikipedia editor. Thanks for existing (?).

I've added a Season overview table to the main page, which links to the tables you made back in November. There are enough links to your page, that it is definitely not an orphan.

Now with Season 5 starting today, I've added that, but we should start doing another table for season 5. I might be a good idea to put every table on their own page later on, since those tables seem to get quite large.

I've cleaned up the layouting here and there.

I'll look for references and a bit and add them as stumble upon them. This will get rid of the "only primary sources" issue. For things like episode lists this is no problem, though. The issue tag seems to have been added by a script or mod, that was a little overzealous.

Oh wow, I'm so happy to have someone who knows what they're doing looking at this stuff! Thanks for doing the cleanup. The references have definitely been the most challenging part.

Maybe we should start a new thread somewhere else for wikipedia issues/updates, or just take it to private messages so we don't bore folks here.

Erm, I'd advice to keep the technicalities to the talk pages of the Wikipedia articles, but I think we should still discuss things in public, so other people can chime in, etc...

It seems this discussion about the rhetandlink.com site has segway'd into a discussion about the relevant Wikipedia articles, but I have no problem with that. I think this is a sensible turn, actually.

Works for me.

Wow, you added all those episodes?? That's awesome! Thanks for taking the time to do that!

I agree with Gumbo, it should probably be fine. It's relevant to the topic and contains information for readers, and makes things easier.

Thank you! It was fun. :)

The list is also here as a googledoc, which is a little more user friendly than Wikipedia. Plus, there I can put links to the episodes which makes it a LOT more useful.
