Florida: The Sunshine State

I live in Florida now, but I'm born and raised in New York. I find there's lots to talk about with this place. Are you a native Floridian or a "transplant?" Prefer North, Central or South? Like the Ocean or the Gulf? Ever had boiled peanuts? What is the deal with those? And, most importantly, "Is Florida a Southern State?"

I am a native Mythical Floridian. I prefer South. I like the Ocean. I never have had boiled peanuts it sounds gross. I have no idea what they are. It is kind of a South-eastern state.

Born and raised in Miami! We're not really "southern" at all, just a bunch of parties and a few celebs :)

Native Floridian here! I grew up in central FL, but I live the north now. I haven't seen a nice place in central Florida, so I'd say I prefer north. I have had boiled peanuts! They're delicious! I'm pretty sure someone just wanted another way to eat peanuts instead of just roasting them...haha. I'd say Florida is half southern half not. The more south you get in FL the less southern you get.

Native Floridian! That's what it's all about :) I prefer the south, of course! I love the ocean, yes I am in love with boiled peanuts, idk. And Florida is a southern state - why wouldn't it be? haha <3

Native Floridian. Born in Miami, moved to the Tampa Bay after 10 years, regular Disney World goer. I love the country life! The only con to it is Publix is 15 minutes away. Ugh. haha ^_^ Pretty much all of FL is the south in my opinion, but I prefer Central FL. Gulf for sure. No I haven't, but I love anything peanut [butter] so I have to try it someday! And there is a band called Family Force 5 and they have this song called Kountry Gentleman. The song has lyrics, "My momma raised me in the durty south, a kountry gentleman." They are from Georgia and no one in their right mind doubts the southernness of GA. One day, FF5 visited FL in a concert and they said, "We were raised in the 'durty south.' But Y'ALL are further south than we are. Y'all are the "durty, durty south!'" If those guys say we're a dirtier south than they are, I think FL has great credibility to be considered a Southern State!
