Michigan: America's high-five!

Hello from the mitten state! We've got lakes; five of them and they're all great. Despite our state economy taking a nose-dive in recent years, Michigan still has a lot to offer. There's breathtaking scenery to the north, and some awesome little "big" cities in the south-east. (I'm sure the west side of the state does too, but I don't live there, so I'm biased.)

Our governor is trying to resurrect this fair state by luring in the movie industry...it's kinda cool; DeNiro was filming something around Ypsi in the past couple of months, and Drew Barrymore shot a movie in Saline last year. (maybe the year before that, time has been flying.) 'Tis kinda a big deal for our humble state, hence the shameless name-dropping.

If you ever come to Michigan, you must head to the top of the mitten, go across the bridge, and find the Mystery Spot. It's worth the drive, I promise. (don't be surprised if someone calls you a fudgie while you're up there...it's the northerners' nickname for tourists.)

***I changed the title because I had just heard Michigan being called this the other day...I've lived here for my entire life, how have I not heard it before???

Although there doesn't seem to be much input from the state of Michigan, I just wanted to add my existence to this thread.

Haha, I like the sweet nickname for Michigan. America's High Five... I'm gonna have to start calling it that. I live on the West side, and believe me... there's not much in the way of big cities around here. :D But I love it. Such a pretty place! I'll miss it while I'm off at college in Chicago. :(

I (Misti) am a Michigander. I have lived on the lower and the upper Peninsula, so I'm a trooper? I don't know how to combine a Yooper with a troll. Haha, it sounds like a bad joke! Hardcore yoopers would say that you have to be born in the U.P. and live there for 100% of your life to be considered a Yooper. So, based on that, I'm a troll.

I moved to GA at the beginning of 2009 and then to Thailand, and now living in Japan. I MISS MICHIGAN! Hopefully we'll be back for Christmas this year. I am so excited to go home! :)

Do you know how to shovel snow and deal with the cold and lived in the U.P. for at least a little bit? If so, your a Yooper even if you lived here for a short time. I'm a Yooper! Say ya to da UP eh?
