Mondegreen is ironically itself a mondegreen.  It came from a Scottish ballad; everyone thought it was Lady Mondegreen, when in fact it was "laid him on the green"

More random useless trivia.

Here is a list of the 100 funniest (according to the readers poll) misheard song lyrics of all time:

My favorite mondogreen will forever be the Manfred Mann's Earth Band version of the classic Bruce Springsteen song "Blinded by the Light" . . .

Original lyric as penned by The Boss:

"Blinded by the light, cut loose like a duece, another runner in the night"

Revised lyric as recorded by MMEB:

"Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night"

Often misinterpretted lyric:

"Blinded by the light, wraped up like a douche, another rumour in the night"

Manfred Mann's Earth Band's recording of the song features several changed lyrics. The most prominent change is in the chorus, where Springsteen's "cut loose like a deuce" is replaced with "revved up like a deuce".  This is commonly misheard as "wrapped up like a douche" (the V sound in "revved" is almost unpronounced, and the S sound in "deuce" comes across as "SH" due to a significant lisp). Springsteen himself has joked about the controversy, claiming that it was not until Manfred Mann rewrote the song to be about a feminine hygiene product that it became popular.

FYI - - the actual "deuce" reference in the song, and also in the Beach Boys' "Little Deuce Coupe" is about a 1932 Ford 2-door coupe, which was a nice-looking little work hose in its day but still remains one of the most popular "hot rod" conversion bodies.
