As a cellist myself, I was slightly offended to be called a nerd by link :P not that being a nerd is anything to be ashamed of....I just prefer to think of myself as a geek.

If you go through the original article, you will see the following amendment:

(Update: I learned that Olivia Culpo — a self-described “cellist nerd” — was crowned Miss Universe on December 20, 2012. The event was heavily tweeted smack in the middle of my data collection, so that probably explains the correlation between “cellist” and “nerd” here. It also underscores the limitations of time-sensitive data.)

As a result, that "cellist" data point on his graph is likely due to Ms. Culpo's self-labeling as a nerd, and thus may not reflect the wider understanding of how musicians are categorized in the "geek vs. nerd" debate.

NOTE:  I actually saw your pic post today, did a "NERD versus GEEK" search of my own, found the article noted below and posted my first comment before I ever watched today's GMM episode or the new rap video they're discussing.  Does that make me a geek?

The entire NERD vs. GEEK argument is fully expounded upon at the following:

On “Geek” Versus “Nerd” ~ by burrsettles

Although this guy is an accomplished researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, widely published and apparently well respected in his field of expertise, this particular article was written kind of "tongue in cheek".  He does, however, make some very valid arguments and supports his opinion with both empirical evidence and a mathematical analysis.

Of particular note, Mr. Settles has chosen to place the CELLIST at the farthest extreme limit of nerdom in his plot . . . for a high-res PDF of this plot, you can go here.
