Á Bao A Qu

Á Bao A Qu is a Mewar legendary creature described in Jorge Luis Borges's 1967 Book of Imaginary Beings. It's most likely that Á Bao A Qu was inspired by the Orang Asli myth of "Abang Aku." It lives on the front steps of the Tower of Victory in Chitor, India, where it waits, sleeping, shapeless and translucent, for a man (or woman) brave enough to climb to the top. Á Bao A Qu then follows close behind. The further up the person climbs, the creature becomes clearer and more colorful. If the person reaches the very top (Nirvana), Á Bao A Qu reaches perfection. However, only one person to date has reached Nirvana.
