According to Dictionary.com:

Nerd:

noun, Slang.
1.
a stupid, irritating, ineffectual, or unattractive person.
2.
an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: a computer nerd.

whereas

Geek:
noun, Slang.
1.
a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.)
2.
a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, especially one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.
3.
a carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken.

I consider myself Nerdy in some ways and geeky in others, however I disagree with Nerd definition 1 and Geek definitions 2 (and 3 is irrelevant.)
I am not a computer nerd compared to Real Computer Nerds (like my Dad, who really did help invent the internet - with a team of folks at UofM and UofU, had an early e-card company - 5.5" Floppy Disk early, and can still take apart and put together a computer faster than I can drive to a store and buy one), but I know way more than the average person (I got a C+ in BASIC, but I bet I could still program an Apple IIe to calculate a bus driver's wages and I played Oregon Trail and Reader Rabbit when they were new.)

I'm not a Gamer in the caliber of my brothers-in-law, who play a game through until they win, but I have played a wise variety of games until boredom sets in, and I'm a decent button-masher. But, our 1989 NES (not Super, just NES) STILL works and we have the Power Pad and the Gun!
(By WE, I mean my sisters and I, we saved up our Birthday, Channukah and Christmas money to buy it --and our parents helped a little (what does a 7, 6, 5 & 3 year old know about things like sales tax anyway?) Our Mom only let us play it for half an hour a day. Which is probably why it is still in such good condition, and most of our games are for little kids. . . but it is hooked up to our HD TV and sits below the Wii  we bought for our parents!

I'm not really into Comic Books, but I <3 Thor and collect Thor stuff. But I'm totally not a "Real Collector" because I open everything!

I'm not a History Buff in that I know a ton of info on any one specific time period or event, and I am dreadful at remember exactly WHEN something happened.  But, I do medieval re-enactment and I love Historical Fiction and going to Historic Landmarks and Museums!

I guess the one thing I am Truely NERDY about is Books.  Not a specific genre (although I own a lot of Fantasy, Romance and Adventure Fiction, and Teacher Non-Fiction) but where my collection is vast is in Children's Literature.  I probably own close to 3,000 books, and most of them are picture books, "chapter" books and YA lit!
I LOVE VIDEO GAMES!!!!! And I take them to an extreme. Such as my favorite game, Kingdom Hearts. I have Kingdom Hearts shirts, posters, profile picture, ect. I also love to read books, and graphic novels. So I have no problem calling myself, a nerd. I am one, and proud of it :)

really I only need to say one thing to qualify as both nerd and geek

for the love of STAR TREK is the root of all awesomeness.

but it wont hurt to mention an obsessive love of math, science, and theology.

ive also been labeled a dork but I don't comprehend how i'm a male whale's reproductive organ. XD

I don't think the dictionary is a reliable source for slang word definitions. The first definition of nerd is a stupid person, and the second is an intelligent one. Very odd...

Anyway, I consider myself a nerd for many reasons. First of all, I read A LOT. I spend a lot of money on books, and one of my favourite places to be is at a bookstore. I also frequently scour the internet and Wikipedia for info on various topics. I love math and science, and my favourite areas of science are quantum physics and psychology, including mental maladies and personality psychology (I'm an INTJ mastermind, WOO). I'm picky with people's grammar, have a large vocabulary, and am very introverted, in case you didn't figure that out from the INTJ thing. In conclusion, I am a large nerd and proud of it!

My teacher called me and my friends nerds and plus I do lots of research and was put into an advanced math class and group with smart people in 6th grade, but not an introvert and self-minded. I like being around people and hate being alone. I rather call myself a geeky nerd because I am always doing stuff on the computer and a fan of those Marvel and Harry Potter. I was a fan of Superman since I was  4 though and I love Minecraft. I want to be a chemical engineer when I grow up because I love science. I am a nerd, happy and humble.

I consider myself nerd and geek, basically because I'm in love with science (I study chemistry) and Comic Books.

I grew up watching things like LOTR, harry potter, star trek, star wars, and doctor who AND I LOVE IT! I also am an algebra nerd...
