Ahh, another hard question! Honestly, I'd probably say the movies. Don't get me wrong, I DO love the books and J.R.R. Tolkien, but because I watched the movies first before reading the books (I was only 10), I have a greater love for the movies. I know, shame on me. XD They're both good!

Regarding my favorite part: THE WHOLE TRILOGY. XD Nah, one of my many top favorite scenes is Sam's speech from the Two Towers. *giddy* Best thing ever.

I can't really say I favor one over the other...I love them both so much!! Especially since I read the books first before seeing the movies, I was just so excited that the movies did the books justice. :)

I don't know if I can pinpoint a favorite part in the books, but one of my favorite scenes in the movies is when the Riders of Rohan line up on Pelennor Fields to come to Gondor's aid...soooo epic!! ;)

I watched the movies before the books because our family was basically brought up with this lol. But honestly reading the book I am loving it, I'm thinking wow the movie is so epic, then I read the book. WOAH! Even more epic! I think my favorite scene in the movie is when Frodo and Sam are captured on their way to Mordor by the rangers and Faramir is having the conversation with Frodo.

movies .... mostly cause i havent read the books

Well, I read the books before I saw the movies. Multiple times. And also, The Hobbit is my favorite book of all time, so that doesn't hurt. I'd have to go with the books, as much as I love the movies.

Favorite part?... that's just cruel!

But I guess I do particularly like the poem about Strider:

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

I love the movies, don't get me wrong, but I love the books more.

The Hobbit is my favorite book ever, and since there is as of yet no movie for that (I'm going to the premiere!) that only strengthens my decision.

My favorite part of the books is in Fellowship of the Ring with Tom Bombadil. :) He is such an intriguing character, and I enjoyed every second of them staying with him.

Favorite part of the movies is as follows... it gives me the chills.

Sam: I wonder if we'll ever be put into songs or tales.
Frodo: [turns around] What?
Sam: I wonder if people will ever say, 'Let's hear about Frodo and the Ring.' And they'll say 'Yes, that's one of my favorite stories. Frodo was really courageous, wasn't he, Dad?' 'Yes, my boy, the most famousest of hobbits. And that's saying a lot.'
Frodo: [continue walking] You've left out one of the chief characters - Samwise the Brave. I want to hear more about Sam.
[stops and turns to Sam]
Frodo: Frodo wouldn't have got far without Sam.
Sam: Now Mr. Frodo, you shouldn't make fun; I was being serious.
Frodo: So was I.

Gahh, Aimee! You just made me jump up and down in my chair!

I like that part too but I was so disappointed finding out about Tom Bombadil because he was such a great character but it was explained to me that in the cinema world a character like Tom Bombadil causes so much dispute because of why he wouldn't take the ring and destroy it. So even though I think he should've been in the movie unfortunately though that just doesn't work it. :|

I'm going to have to go with the books although the movies are amazing the they left out my favourite part/character Tom Bombadill

I know mine too but apparently Tom Bombadill just doesn't work in the cinema world :/

The Book.

The best part I think was the battle in the mines of Moria.

I prefer the books, but only because there is so much to discover when reading them. The movies barely begin to dip into the rich depths of history and detail that the books have to offer. I love them both, but the books more so.

My favorite scene from the books is when Aragorn is telling the tale of Beren and Luthien. It's a beautifully written story within the story and displays Tolkien's talent well.
