SIX DEGREES OF BACON!

I was able to connect in only four (4) steps with Wikipedia verifiable sources - - not too shabby for a Yank, eh?

  • Queen Elizabeth II* . . .
  •  in 1977, as part of her Silver Jubilee celebrations, the Queen visited Westminster Cathedral in London (a.k.a the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the mother church of the Catholic Church in England and Wales) for a flower show, which was highly symbolic as the first visit of a reigning monarch of the United Kingdom to a Catholic church in the nation since the Reformation . . .
  • in 1996 Westminster Cathedral was also the shooting location of Fruit & Vegetables, Season 1 Episode 3 of TWO FAT LADIES the BBC's favorite (and funniest!) television cooking program starring Clarissa Dickson Wright and Jennifer Paterson . . .
  • one of Clarissa's featured recipes in this particular episode was "bubble and squeak", a traditional English dish made with the shallow-fried leftover vegetables from a roast dinner - - main ingredients are potato and cabbage, but carrots, peas, Brussels sprouts, or any other leftover vegetables can be added . . . the chopped vegetables (and cold chopped meat if used) are fried in a pan together with mashed potatoes or crushed roast potatoes until the mixture is well-cooked and brown on the sides . . . the dish is so named because the cabbage makes bubbling and squeaking sounds during the cooking process . . . it is often served with cold meat from the Sunday roast, and pickles or brown sauce, or as an accompaniment to a full English breakfast . . .
  • and, as we all know, the traditional English breakfast always includes BACON!

* Her Majesty Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas Queen, Defender of the Faith, Duchess of Edinburgh, Countess of Merioneth, Baroness Greenwich, Duke of Lancaster, Lord of Mann, Duke of Normandy, Sovereign of the Most Honourable Order of the Garter, Sovereign of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Sovereign of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Sovereign of the Most Illustrious Order of Saint Patrick, Sovereign of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Sovereign of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Sovereign of the Distinguished Service Order, Sovereign of the Imperial Service Order, Sovereign of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India, Sovereign of the Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire, Sovereign of the Order of British India, Sovereign of the Indian Order of Merit, Sovereign of the Order of Burma, Sovereign of the Royal Order of Victoria and Albert, Sovereign of the Royal Family Order of King Edward VII, Sovereign of the Order of Merit, Sovereign of the Order of the Companions of Honour, Sovereign of the Royal Victorian Order, Sovereign of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem.

I thought this was a good choice for the first guest episode of the summer. Though I'm not particularly a fan of any of these three, their banter had some R&L-like moments and they were playing something designed to be entertaining regardless of the players. Hopefully the rest of the guest episodes go as well.

The 3 Monkeys were also featured in a THIS IS MYTHICAL cooking featurette today, which made me curious . . . because I have occasionally seen YouTube comments on some R&L / GMM videos to the effect of . . .

"It's so nice that these super stars are lending their fan base over to Rhett and Link."

Perhaps not as popular as those fans thought?
