Brennan, you can use Heat n' Bond, but I'm not sure how well it would stay without sewing it. Maybe try the Heavy Duty kind instead of the lighter version. I do recommend sewing around the edges, though.

Brennan, I do not know how to make iron-on patches but I have done freezer paper stenciling MANY times with great results. Just Google 'freezer paper stencil tutorial' and you will see what I mean. For the medium I use regular acrylic craft paint mixed with some textile medium (found next to the bottles of paint). Perhaps you would be interested in this technique for something!
