Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!

So on last night's show Rhett and Link shared some "sad" stories and two were pertaining to their animals. I don't want to ruin their stories if you haven't watched the show but I have my own "sad" dead cat story I would like to share. And I wonder how many other people have a story like this as well.

3 years ago when I was 19 years old my cat died. She was old, and didn't really like anyone. Everyday she sat in the same spot on the couch, and she barely moved off of it. You didn't dare try to move her either, she would bite your hand off if you did!

Angel died in February on a Sunday. My father is a Pastor so Sunday's at our house are crazy, a lot of running around getting ready. So I try to stay out of the way. I sat on the couch next to the cat and ate breakfast then got ready for church.
After church my mom and dad went to a funeral visitation so my older sister and I were home alone.

My sister and I arrived home and I sat down to watch TV my sister went to call her boyfriend. On a gutsy whim I decided to pet my cat, who was still on the couch. I no sooner touched her than realized she was dead...I screamed than ran down the hall to my sister's room, "Angel's dead!" I yelled.
"What?" She put down the phone and ran down the hall. On the other line her boy friend only heard, "Ahhh, Dead! What?" Needless to say he was clearly out of the loop.

My sister was devastated, Angel was her cat, and had been for 17 years. So I calmly called my parents. When mom answered I calmly said, "Angel...Angel..."Then I lost it complete Laura Petrie melt down. I couldn't stop crying. Which is odd because I hated that cat. She was always so mean to me. My sister pulled herself together and told my parents Angel died, so they promptly returned from the funeral visitation -for a real person- so they could console their adult daughters about the death of their cat (which only 1/4 people in the house actually liked.

Well it's February in Michigan and the ground is pretty solid, no snow but still frozen. My dad got a shovel and started digging a nice little kitty hole next to the dead hamster. (We like to keep our dead animals all in one place). After about 30 minutes he came inside only to find our cat about two feet long in length and stiff as a board. My dad heaved a sigh and went back outside to dig a bigger hole.

Meanwhile it started to rain. Finally the hole was dug and it was time to bury our cat. I had not stopped crying for a good hour, and Even my mother was sniffling. We were all still in our Sunday clothes, and we went outside with our umbrellas to say our last good byes, even the dog came out with us.

As we are standing outside burying the cat I made my dad say a few words and pray (he's a pastor after all he should do these things). I also make everyone tell a story about Angel. But when "There was this one time she tried to bite me" turned out to be the only legacy Angel had left, I had my father close in prayer.

As we are standing outside at our cat funeral our new neighbors pull up. They had moved in the day before and we hadn't really met them yet. So what they get out of their car to see is a nicely dressed family standing, outside in the very cold rain, with their dog, around a freshly dug hole, crying.
Not a great first impression.

After we finished praying it strikes me as odd that Angel was so stiff. So I ask my mom, she explains that when someone dies after about 10 hours there body becomes very rigid. "10 hours?" I shrieked, "Angel was dead this morning?"
"Probably"
"SO YOU MEAN I ATE BREAKFAST NEXT TO A DEAD CAT?"

Our neighbor's never asked us what went on that day, and my sister had about 20 messages from her boy friend when we got back inside. We got a new cat, a much nicer cat that everyone loves. And as for me, well I tend to poke the animal sitting next to me before I sit down for any meal.

If you have a funny pet/animal story share it! And watch the show if you haven't!

Hmm...one of the things I remember most fondly is my first pet, a Beta fish. I kept it in a container on top of my tv, which was on top of a dresser. It was a nice place for a fish. =) It lived a few months, I fed it regularly....and then one day I walked into my room and the fish had jumped from its container to its death...That's the first and only pet that I've had commit suicide....

hahaha.
I hope you were able to recover from such a tragedy. LOL. Perhaps he wasn't attempting suicide, instead he only was trying to see what was on TV.
That's so weird, the exact same thing happened to my goldfish. Poor little Fred (yes, I did name my goldfish Fred XD) commited suicide too. It's sort of strange when you go to feed your fish only to realize that it has commited suicide. I guess I wasn't the best owner? lol
my dog is blind.
