Home of Rhett & Link fans - the Mythical Beasts!

Hey, Beasts! I haven't seen a discussion opened about this yet (unless I missed something), so I figured I'd go ahead and open up a thread to talk about the recent changes and editing to the Good Mythical More episode format that started last week.

There was a lot of talk about it in the YouTube comments and other social media platforms since the new editing debuted. Last night, Rhett and Link posted a response to their Tumblr blog. The response reads, in full:

Hey guys-

We saw the feedback today about the changes made to Good Mythical More.  We wanted to let you know that we hear you. Your passion and dedication to us and Good Mythical Morningis always valued and we appreciate you being so engaged in the community we’ve created together.

To bring everybody up to speed, the change consisted of cutting off the repetitive wheel ending at the beginning of GMMore, leaving the end of the wheel that hasn’t been seen, then bringing in the title before going into the show itself. And, yes, sometimes (but not always), this may involve trimming a very small portion of an especially long wheel ending.

We made this change for a couple of reasons. The first is that we found the previous wayGMMore started to be redundant. Many of you said you simply skipped through to Good Mythical More to see the wheel ending- we want you to enjoy Good Mythical Morning through the full wheel ending as we designed it.

The second reason is that we want to make the show more accessible for first time watchers. A surprising amount of people are served the GMMoreepisodes through suggested video. This new “intro” does a better job of orienting the audience to the content if they’re not coming from the associatedGood Mythical Morning episode.

We appreciate what you guys like about Good Mythical More, and it will continue to be candid, off-the-cuff, spontaneous conversation between the two of us and you guys.   But, we will also continue to experiment with changes in GMM and GMMore, just like we always have, to make our content the best possible experience for Mythical Beasts everywhere.

Thanks for your feedback, and please know that we are committed to giving you the best possible start to your day every morning.

And, thanks for being your Mythical Best.

Change for the sake of trying new things is fine, but honestly, I don't see how this improves things in the way that they say it does.  If they want to cut off the repetitive part, they could do that, but still have the intro at the beginning of the video.  It just seems jarring to have "talking/laughing BOOM INTRO IN YOUR FACE more talking".  I guess there's a symmetry with GMM, but there's also no "Let's talk about that" in GMMore to signal the intro.

But they're still playing with it, so I'm interested to see where this goes.  It's really sad to see a bunch of people crying that Rhett and Link don't care about fans (they don't care SO MUCH that they wrote this long letter), and this is what's going to make them stop watching.  Trying new things is the foundation for this brand of internetainment.  There's been a lot that I've disliked and disagreed with, but I've also enjoyed enough to keep me watching.  My 2 cents.

Honestly, I don't understand why people are so upset about the change. It seems very logical to me that the intro thingy is after the wheel ending. It does give more professional feel, but I don't mind that at all.

I noticed the change when I watching last week's episodes, too.I thought it was an editing accident, but then it kept going, and I decided not to think too much of it. If they want to try stuff out, that's cool! That's totally up to them, always seeing what works and what doesn't. That's the creative process. :)

By the way, I just noticed that they added orange tabs on the GMMore thumbnails, like they do with the green GMM ones. I like that! I think it helps show where that video is supposed to be within their work.
